KMQ Interview: Alice in the Attic (#8Authors)

Screen Shot 2015-10-30 at 11.17.17 PMI love talking to Rose Caraway. A few months ago, I spoke with her in-studio for the release of the Sexy Librarian’s Dirty 30, vol. 1. It was a great experience – one that I didn’t realize I’d be lucky enough to repeat so soon.

Earlier this week, I went back to Rose’s studio, this time to talk about Libidinous Zombie, the collection of erotic horror that Rose and her brilliant husband / partner in crime, Dayv, have been dreaming of for years.

I was privileged to be one of the #8Authors she asked to contribute to this collection and the story that I ultimately handed over turned out to be quite a labor of love, one that is especially important to me.

Alice Blk Bkgnd FB“Alice in the Attic” isn’t a pretty story. If I did my job right, it’s creepy and unsettling and abjectly filthy. I also hope that, while it makes you vaguely uncomfortable, it also turns you on. That intersection between sex and fear is fascinating to me. In fact, it’s very much at Alice’s heart.

This interview was short and sweet and really fun (at least, that’s how it felt to record!) We talked about short stories that want to be novels, taboo and transgression, and how wonderful it is when an editor asks you take off the reins and GO. You don’t have to have read #LZ to enjoy it. Hell, you don’t even have to like horror. It’s just a good conversation about writing without restraint. That said, if you happened to want to read some pretty righteous, sexy horror, you could do better than #LZ.

Taboo Busters: Sex, Eroticism and Critical Lenses

Green Taboo Busters logo for episode 4 with Malin JamesThere are certain people that, when you meet them, it’s like picking up an old friendship you hadn’t realized you had. Meeting Stella Ottewill was like that. She and I met through Molly Moore on a different podcast and we quickly bonded over books, writing, recreational thinking and epic letter writing.

Stella recently began Taboo Busters, a podcast dedicated to exploring ideas that often get brushed aside. As she says, no taboo is too big or too small – from cutting and prog rock to whether or not Ringo is the best Beatle (clearly not). It’s the sort of podcast I’d listen to even if I didn’t know it’s creator – it revels in discussion and there are no limits to what’s on the table.

For my chat with Stella, “Sex, Eroticism and Critical Lenses”, we settled on talking about something we’re both passionate about – sex in literature. There is a great deal of debate regarding the erotica market, porn, censorship and what exactly erotic literature is. There are many ways to answer these questions, but behind them all is what I believe to be the underpinning issue – that of the value of sex in literature and the lack of a critical framework through which to engage it. I love this subject and I loved talking about it with Stella. I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I did.

New on the KMQ: A Girl’s Guide to Her First Orgy

Art by Dayv "Big Daddy" Caraway

There are people that I love to work with, and then there are people I LOVE to work with. Rose Caraway is one of the latter. I’ve been lucky to work with Rose and her extremely cool husband, Dayv, a fair I hope that never changes.

To date, I’ve had two stories featured on the Kiss Me Quick’s Erotica Podcast, as well as a three narrated by Rose for audiobook. I even got to join Rose in her studio for an interview a few months ago. While they’ve each been pretty different, Rose has done amazing things with every one. Now I’m proud to say that I’ve got a brand spanking new one out on the Kiss Me Quick’s.

“A Girl’s Guide to Her First Orgy” was a title before it was a story. In fact, it’s one of those rare cases where I wrote the story for a title, instead of the other way around. I played around with a few different scenarios, but in each one, there was a girl fresh out of a relationship and a beautiful old house. The orgy took care of itself…

You can listen to the silky voiced Rose Caraway read “A Girl’s Guide to Her First Orgy” by clicking on the pretty, pretty image Dayv Caraway created for the story, or by clicking HERE.

If you haven’t already subscribed to the Kiss Me Quick’s podcast or its sister podcast, The Sexy Librarian’s BlogCast I can honestly say that you won’t be sorry if you decide to change that. Seriously. Thank you :)

KMQ Interview: Inside the Erotica Author’s Studio

Dirty 30_1Hello all! I got to do a very cool thing earlier this week. Rose Caraway, of The Kiss Me Quick’s Erotica Podcast and The Sexy Librarian BlogCast, did a series awhile ago called “Inside the Erotica Author’s Studio” in which she interviewed the authors she featured in The Sexy Librarian’s Big Book of Erotica. It was a great series and I enjoyed it tremendously last Fall, so when she mentioned that she’d be bringing it back for the lease of The Sexy Librarian’s Dirty 30, vol. 1I was really excited, even more so when she asked me up to her place for an in-studio interview to kick the whole thing off.

So, that’s what I did. I spent a couple of really excellent hours talking about everything from erotica and writing to monster porn and Amazon filters with Rose and Big Daddy over at the KMQ headquarters. It was one of the most relaxing interview experiences I’ve ever had. Rose is incredibly generous in her support of authors and the genre, and the conversation flowed everywhere, mostly because Rose is fantastically easy to talk to. In fact, there were points that I forgot we were being recorded.

If you’d like to listen to the interview, just click the real player below and off you go, or if you’d like to read Rose’s show notes before listening, click HERE to be taken to the episode’s page over at the KMQ / Sexy Librarian site. Either way, I hope you check it out and enjoy. It’s a bit long (because damn we were having a good time) but I hope it’s as much fun to listen to as it was to record. Plus, if you hang out for the 10 Pivot Questions at the end, you’ll hear my stump myself on No. 8 – What Would You Do If You Couldn’t Write Erotica? It was a hard one because honestly, there’s nothing I’d rather do than what I’m doing right now.

xx.M

KissCast Storytime

KissCastLips1400Itunes

The lovely and brilliant Molly Moore of Molly’s Daily Kiss has a new feature of her podcast, the KissCast. It’s a story time where different authors and bloggers read their own work. This sort of thing really excites me, especially the fact that fiction and nonfiction appear together in one episode, so when Molly asked if I’d like to contribute a piece, the answer was yes. (Actually, the answer was really OH MY GOD, YES! ARE YOU KIDDING?!? but I’m going to pretend I played it cool).

The piece I ended up recording is a short story called “Resurrection”. It was the third erotic story I ever had accepted for publication and was meant to appear in Best Men’s Erotica 2014. Sadly, the publisher closed before the anthology could be released, but I’ve always had a special attachment to this piece, so it made me really happy to read it for this episode. The story is HERE on my blog if you’d like to read the text.

There are three other authors in this episode and all of them turn in really impressive readings. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing B.D. Swain read live and she’s as good recorded as she is in person. Her story “Frame by Frame” is a subtle knock out. Likewise, my lovely friend and partner-in-crime, Jade A. Waters, turns in a flat out charming reading of her story, “Toys”. Rounding things out, Michael Malflic reads his post, “Watching her cum” with all of the straightforward, slightly wicked and very sexy perspective I’ve come to read in his writing.

It’s an impressive group and I’m proud to be in there with them. So, if you want to hear some amazingly hot sex writing read by the people that wrote the words, please do check the episode out.
